The Jaguar F-Type was introduced back in 2013 and is a successor of Jaguar’s E-Type and a replacement for the Jaguar XK. The F-Type was initially launched as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with Jaguar having a 2-door fastback coupe version later on. This model in the Jaguar fleet is said to be a modern version of what the E-Type was from 1961 to 1975.
The Jaguar F-Type R is mentioned as one of the F-Type range’s high-performance cars that create a perfect balance between luxury and performance. It seeks to satisfy a luxury sports car shopper looking for something that is stylish and stands out. Jaguar described the model as its most performance-focused production car ever. Jaguar F-Type R is a big performance upgrade from the standard 2017 F-Type that has a rear-wheel drive and is a 460NM supercharged V6.
Speaking of engine power, the F-Type R has a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that takes on 423 KW and 680 NM. It is mechanically connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, despite Jaguar offering a manual transmission on v6-powered F-Type, making the F-Type R a first of its own kind. On the acceleration front, Jaguar used to offer the F-Type R in rear-wheel drive as mentioned already. However, with this model comes a now standard all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring that handles and eliminates any issues that may have related to traction before. Jaguar mentions “F-TYPE R features Adaptive Dynamics and a Torque Vectoring system that works alongside its Electronic Active Differential. These systems complement each other to optimize traction and cornering ability while reducing understeer.”
Its sophisticated Electric Power Assisted Steering system and advanced all-round forged aluminium double wishbone suspension make approaching and handling corners something of ease and thrill. The All Wheel Drive system with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics enables confident handling on all road surfaces and offers performance with perfect poise – making this the most capable of sports car.
The R-coupe has a top speed of 299kph and an ability to cover 0-96kph in just 4.0 seconds, while the R-convertible with the same top speed covers the same sprint in 3.9 seconds. The options that feature with the 5.0-litre supercharged engine include 50cm wheels with larger steel brakes; carbon-ceramic units with performance tyres; and lighter forged wheels. The choices of braking systems include:
- 355mm front and 325mm rear brakes – Optimized to combine both durability and low weight while delivering reassuring performance.
- 380mm front and 325mm rear brakes – This system delivers consistent levels of outstanding stopping power.
- 380mm front and 376mm rear brakes – For extremely fast, responsive and progressive braking performance.
- 398mm front and 380mm rear carbon ceramic brakes – The most powerful braking system that is capable of highest levels of sustained performance in even the most demanding conditions.
Even with the top speed as a given, the car remains flat and is still able to steer with its large tailgate spoiler handling the generated lift perfectly and confidently. For those not looking to experience the exhilarating speed feature sought after by racers and adrenaline junkies, there’s a choice to leave the F-Type R with its Dynamic stability mode on. For maximum comfort and control, Jaguar also has Adaptive Dynamics that analyze the road in order to modify the F-Type R’s response according to the motorist’s driving style.
To complement its sophistication in speed, the F-Type R has interior styling that serves as one of its strongest points too. Jaguar has paid close attention to detail and has ensured to make use of only posh material that consists of suede and leather upholstery making up the electrically adjustable performance sports front seats. To offer greater comfort, the seats also have a cooling option. Drivers are afforded the choice of personalizing the interior as they can tailor the interior styling with a variety of stitches, materials and colour combinations. When it comes to technology, the F-Type R has a 20cm touch screen infotainment system with smartphone integration and a Meridian sound system – a famous British brand with an algorithm that provides consistent exceptional sound.
This gives you direct control over navigation, music, climate, phone and additional driver support systems that include parking aids. The Touch Pro infotainment system is said to be incredibly responsive and has a highly intuitive user interface and sharp visually appealing graphics. Fast 4G internet connection is also another added feature that allows for connectivity and convenience.
Regarding luggage space, Jaguar designed a loadspace with the aim of suiting every lifestyle. The space accommodates up to 408 litres – with a tailgate that can be opened or closed via a powered button for ease of access.
The F-Type R driver assistance and safety features include:
- Driver condition monitor – Alerts when a driver is drowsy or fatigued and prompts for breaks.
- Lane keep assist – Senses when the car unintentionally drifts out of the lane and gently steers it back.
- Lane departure warning – Notifies with a visual alert and a gentle vibration of the steering wheel when the above-mentioned incident takes place.
- Blind spot monitor and reverse traffic detection – Warns of vehicles, pedestrians or other hazards approaching from either side of the car, especially when reversing out of a parking spot.
The Jaguar F-Type R was engineered for stability, agility and confidence when it comes to performance. It also provides all of this whilst offering a luxurious experience.
